 Conditions of entry

Entries are now open! Please read the below Conditions of Entry before submitting your entry:

  1. Artsts may site a previously exhibited work provided the work is conceptually congruent with the 5 Lands Walk theme of connecting people to people and people to place.

  2. Artists will receive a nominal payment to help defray installation/material costs, to be paid into the account on the entry form.

  3. In your application a detailed artwork description and safety statement are required. These include an outline of how any potential hazards have been addressed, a description of the construction methods to secure the work in place and a diagram/photo of the work. On the day, artists are to ensure safety is adequately addressed with fixings into the sand.

  4. Artwork for the Ephemera 2024 exhibition will be selected by a panel comprising the Ephemera Curator and nominees of the 5 Lands Artists Collective Inc. All required fields on Entry Form must be completed for an entry to be accepted.

  5. The organisers will attempt to include all work submitted via entry form. Any concerns about appropriateness of content or safety will be communicated to the artist within the 3 weeks prior to install. Organisers will have the right to discriminate if they feel concerns have not been adequately resolved or addressed.

  6. Installation is 6am until 8am Saturday 22nd June and de-installation is approximately 3:30-5pm on the same day.

  7. Installation details, including site numbers/precise location on map, will be provided to artists prior to the exhibition. Artists are to set up where they find their numbered cone in the sand. If you cannot find this please call Vanessa on 0417 733 558.

  8. All works are eligible for the People’s Choice, Inspiration and Artist’s Choice Awards (determined via an independent voting system)

People’s Choice Voting is for the public who are physically present at the 5LW event. Artists are not to solicit outside voting through their own social media accounts etc to compete with an unfair advantage. The People’s Choice prize has been established to foster public engagement with artworks and provide genuine feedback for artists and organisers.

Artist’s Choice Award is awarded to the artist who receives the most votes from other participating artists on the day. Each artist votes for their favourite 3 installations (outside of their own). Points are awarded on a ranked system (1-3).

Inspiration Award as determined by the 5 Lands Walk Ephemera Committee

  9. Please complete the online entry form (including upload of supporting documentation-PDF preferred) by Friday 31 May 2024.
If you are unable to complete an online entry contact Vanesa Drinkwater prior to the deadline via email: ephemera5landswalk@gmail.com

5 Lands Walk

The 5 Lands Walk is an annual cultural event that began in 2006. It is a cultural, physical and spiritual journey comprising a 10 km walk through the 5 coastal lands of Macmasters Beach, Copacabana, Avoca Beach, North Avoca and Terrigal. It is timed to correspond with the winter solstice and the annual northern migration of the whales, which are the totem of the Darkinjung people of the Central Coast. Along the walk, each village hosts cultural activities reflective of their community with the aim of connecting people to people and people to place. These activities include the presentation of food, music, dance, land art, paintings and photography, as well as education in Aboriginal culture and heritage, whale migration and the surrounding natural environment.

The 5 Lands Walk is a fusion of artistic, cultural and physical approaches to a sense of place. All the creative artists of each community contribute to the celebrations. The 5 Lands Walk is a combination of five mini-festivals in one. People who come to experience the event can do so in one land or all five – they create their own story. The Ephemera sculptural exhibition at Avoca Beach is one of the featured cultural events of the 5 Lands Walk and is unique to the festival.
